Japanese Charts: Tomodachi Connection Sells 102,000 In First Week

Nintendo's Tomodachi Connection (a.k.a. Friend Connection), a DS game that allows players to import their Miis to the handheld, is off to a flying start in Japan with 102,000 sold, according to Media Create's weekly charts ended June 21.

Released on June 18, Friend Connection lets users interact with their Wii-based Mii avatars on the DS (or create new ones), buying them clothes, feeding them, and generally keeping the Miis happy. There is no release date announced for North America.

Cacpom's newly-released fighter Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable for PSP was a distant second for the week, with 34,000 units sold.

The only other new top 10 game released during the week was the DS game Akira Tago's Mind Exercises Vol. 1 from Level 5, which sold 10,000 units.

Completely gone from the top 10 charts was last week's number one game, Infinite Space from Sega. The game dropped to the 18th spot. Nintendo's Play on Wii: Chibi-Robo!, Namco Bandai's Evangelion: Jo, and Marvelous' Arc Rise Fantasia also dropped out of the top 10 from the prior week.

Below are the Japanese sales charts for the week ended June 21:

Another week with entries below 10k units, I can't remember a game selling 7k units entering the top 10 before, the japanese market is in serious trouble.
