Japanese Charts: Wii Sports Resort Logs Big Sales

Six new releases proliferated tracking firm Media Create's top 10 games in Japan for the week ended June 28, but it was Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort that was easily the runaway hit.

The title, which includes various sports such as fencing, wakeboarding, and skydiving, sold 360,000 units during the week, capturing the top spot. The closest-selling game was last week's number one, Nintendo's Tomodachi Connection for DS, which sold 72,000 units this week.

Wii Sports Resort utilizes the recently released Wii MotionPlus peripheral, a small attachment for the Wii Remote that improves the accuracy of motion control. Famitsu said this week that at 353,000 sold in its first four days at retail, it was the third-fastest selling Wii game in Japan, behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.

New games showing up in the top ten this week aside from Wii Sports Resort were Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland for PSP, Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono 2 for PSP, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of BlazBlue from Arc System Works, and Agarest Senki Zero for PS3.

Games dropping out of the top 10 from last week were Wii Fit, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Pokemon Platinum, Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable, and Koei's Shin Sangokumusou 5: Empires.

Below are the Japanese sales charts for the week ended June 28:
