Infamous is getting a movie. In a reported seven-figure deal, Sony Pictures has picked up a pitch from screenwriter Sheldon Turner to develop a film based on the Sucker Punch-developed PlayStation 3 exclusive.
According to a Hollywood Reporter story, Sony Pictures -- sibling, of course, to the gaming arm of the megacorporation that published Infamous on its platform -- is working out a rights deal for the game.
Turner wrote the screenplay for "The Longest Yard" remake, and also has a comic book project in the works, among other projects in development.
"What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I've come across that had a big idea and a character arc," Turner said.
"It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is."
Producers Ari and Avi Arad produced "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk," and notably are also producing a film adaptation of Sony's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for Sony Pictures.

Because arguably game to movie deals never work. The producers always feel the need to put their own stamp on the story and then ruin it in the process. For instance Turner thinks Cole from Infamous is an under achiever because he chose to be a bike courier. Never mind that he may have been perfectly happy with the freedom and excitement of the job. Already Cole is painted as a one dimensional character and the movie isn't even in production yet.
Infamous will probably be unrecognisable when/if it ever does make it to the big screen. It will probably end up another Hancock i.e. the first half is great and the second half is another movie entirely.
