Saling The World: Wii Sports Resort Leads Worldwide Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.
This week's charts, with data taken from July 30th, 2009, find Wii Sports Resort topping cross-platform sales in its first week of North American release, as Dragon Quest IX maintains its lead in Japan.
Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:
Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 2 (Konami), 3. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 4. EA Sports Active (EA Sports), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).
Japan: 1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. Kyoufu Taikan: Juon (AQ Interactive), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Punch-Out!! (Nintendo).
UK: 1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. EA Sports Active (EA Sports), 3. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 4. Wii Play (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).
Wii Sports Resort dominates multiplatform software sales in its first week of release in North America, and continues to do exceptionally well in Japan and in the UK.
Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 2 finishes second in the U.S. charts this week, boosted by a recent "Deal of the Day" sale at Amazon. Wii Fit and EA Sports Active follow at third and fourth, as Mario Kart Wii brings up the rear at fifth.
Xbox 360
North America: 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- Game of the Year Edition (Activision), 2. Gears of War 2 (Microsoft), 3. UFC 2009: Undisputed (THQ), 4. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision), 5. Red Faction: Guerrilla (THQ).
Japan: 1. Gears of War 2 (Microsoft), 2. Gears of War 2 -- Limited Edition (Microsoft), 3. Gears of War -- Xbox 360 Platinum Collection (Microsoft), 4. The King of Fighters XII (SNK Playmore), 5. X Blades (Ubisoft).
UK: 1. Fight Night Round 4 (EA Sports), 2. Gears of War 2 (Microsoft), 3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 4. Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar), 5. Halo 3 -- Classics Edition (Microsoft).
Despite a strong chart showing in its first two weeks of release, EA Sports' NCAA Football 10 drops out of Amazon's top five in the United States this week.
In its place are Gears of War 2 and the Game of the Year edition of Call of Duty 4 -- two titles that have rapidly moved up the charts following recent drops in price. UFC 2009 and Red Faction: Guerrilla also see sales boosts this week, as Call of Duty: World at War climbs to fourth place.
PlayStation 3
North America: 1. Killzone 2 (SCEA), 2. InFamous (SCEA), 3. LittleBigPlanet (SCEA), 4. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots -- Greatest Hits (Konami), 5. NCAA Football 10 (EA Sports)
Japan: 1. Katamari Damacy Tribute (Namco), 2. Pro Yakyuu Spirits 6 (Konami), 3. The King of Fighters XII (SNK Playmore), 4. Demon's Souls (SCEI), 5. Senjou no Valkyria -- PlayStation 3 the Best (Sega).
UK: 1. Dead Space (EA Games), 2. InFamous (SCEA), 3. Fight Night Round 4 (EA Sports), 4. Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar), 5. LittleBigPlanet (SCEE).
Killzone 2 returns to the U.S. PlayStation 3 charts in a big way, taking first place after a brief absence from Amazon's weekly top five.
InFamous takes second in this week's results, surpassing Metal Gear Solid 4 and a returning LittleBigPlanet. NCAA Football 10 hangs on at fifth place, meanwhile, but could soon drop out of chart range.

Square Enix rules Amazon's North American PlayStation 2 chart, with Final Fantasy X and both Kingdom Hearts games figuring among the week's top titles.
Atlus' reissued Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga also remains a top pick this week, as the instrument-bundled Rock Band Special Edition takes second in regional sales.
PC
North America: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Blizzard), 3. Nancy Drew: Ransom of the Seven Ships (Her Interactive), 4. Age of Empires Collector's Edition (Valusoft), 5. World of Warcraft Battle Chest (Blizzard).
Japan: 1. Ragnarok Online RJC2009 Vol. 2: The Battle for Glory (E Frontier), 2. Ragnarok Online RJC2009 Memorial Package (E Frontier), 3. SimCity 4 Deluxe (EA Games), 4. Street Fighter IV (Capcom), 5. Monster Hunter Frontier: Online 2-Shuunin Kinen Premium Package (Capcom).
UK: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. Football Manager 2009 (Sega), 3. Fallout 3 (Bethesda), 4. Civilization IV: Complete (2K Games), 5. ArmA II (505 Games).
Amazon's PC sales chart remains virtually unchanged from last week's results, with The Sims 3, Wrath of the Lich King, and Nancy Drew: Ransom of the Seven Ships continuing to lead domestic demand.
Age of Empires Collector's Edition moves up to finish fourth this week, as the World of Warcraft Battle Chest lands at fifth.
Nintendo DS
North America: 1. Rhythm Heaven (Nintendo), 2. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 3. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 4. Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo), 5. Brain Age (Nintendo).
Japan: 1. Dragon Quest IX (Square Enix), 2. Tomodachi Collection (Nintendo), 3. Puyo Puyo 7 (Sega), 4. Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Rich Oosouji (Nintendo), 5. Doki Majo Plus -- Limited Edition (SNK Playmore).
UK: 1. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo), 2. Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force (Disney), 3. Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo), 4. Junior Brain Trainer DS (Avanquest), 5. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo).
Rhythm Heaven tops the week's Nintendo DS sales in North America after a recent "Lightning Deal" promotional drop in price. This week's results are otherwise predictable, with Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros., and Pokemon Platinum remaining in high demand.
Elsewhere, Dragon Quest IX again leads multiplatform sales in Japan, as Professor Layton and the Curious Village keeps its lead in the UK.
PlayStation Portable
North America: 1. God of War: Chains of Olympus (SCEA), 2. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (Capcom), 3. Resistance: Retribution (SCEA), 4. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 5. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar).

God of War: Chains of Olympus heads North American PSP sales for the second week in a row, edging out Capcom's recently-released Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
Resistance: Retribution takes third in domestic sales after a drop in price, as Crisis Core and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories close out the regional top five.
