Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium opens new German studio
Cloud Imperium Games, the independent game company co-founded by Chris Roberts in 2012, has opened a new office in Frankfurt, Germany as it continues crowdfunding development of its ambitious space sim Star Citizen.
This is chiefly notable because the new office includes a number of former Crytek employees, including studio chief (and former Ryse senior producer) Brian Chambers.
This new Frankfurt office will work under the aegis of Foundry 42, the Manchester-based studio founded by Chris Roberts' brother Erin Roberts in 2013 to contribute to Star Citizen's development by working on the game's single-player campaign.
In a recent video, Chris Roberts portrayed Foundry 42 Germany as a studio that will be chiefly concerned with engine work and tech R&D for Cloud Imperium projects.
Of course, the company really has only one high-profile project at the moment; Cloud Imperium recently surpassed $84 million raised in its ongoing campaign to independently crowdfund Star Citizen, affording it remarkable latitude to pursue Chris Roberts' vision for independent development.
