Microsoft says it will offer $50 rebates on Xbox 360 Elite consoles purchased between September 22 and October 5 this year, effectively providing an additional price reduction off of the company's recent cuts, albeit for a short period.
The rebate offer follows Microsoft's recent $100 price cut off of the Elite SKU, which now retails at $299, the same price point as the rival PlayStation 3. The promotional period is likely geared at driving further user adoption ahead of the crucial holiday sales season.
Users who purchase an Elite during the promotional period can claim the rebate by mail. The company said on the official Xbox website that it will establish a web destination for new purchasers seeking rebates.
"Not only does Xbox 360 play the best games and provide quality entertainment, but now you can sign up for a mail-in rebate for even greater savings," advertises Microsoft.

Microsoft-to me-should honestly be showing more confidence in it's own product, as this rebate offer stems w/ a bit of insecurity on their part, as if the 360 can't match or beat the PS3 Slim's sales if both of them were out there at the same equal price,which...could be true, or not true. Time will tell. But if they are considering extending this rebate thing or-even moreso-reducing the price of the Elite even further, they might as well phase out the Arcade model while they're at it.
