Nintendo Announces Limited-Edition Wii Sports Resort Bundle

Nintendo has announced a limited-edition Wii Sports Resort bundle for the U.S., with two MotionPlus add-ons in addition to the game.

Following the company's Wii hardware price cut to $199, it has confirmed the limited-edition bundle of Wii Sports Resort -- to debut October 12th in the United States.

Designed to further stimulate demand going into the holiday season, the bundle will be available at a suggested retail price of $59.99. Typically, Wii Sports Resort comes with a single Wii MotionPlus unit at a suggested retail price of $49.99, and additional Wii MotionPlus units are available at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

The new bundle will be available "while supplies last" at most major retailers. The company also revealed that, through the end of August, Wii Sports Resort has already sold more than 1.25 million units in the United States alone.

Nearly 2.9 million Wii MotionPlus accessories are in the hands of the public. That includes all those sold with Wii Sports Resort, standalone sales of 1.36 million and an additional 257,000 bundled with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10.

“Shoppers are looking for value as we head into the holiday season, and this Wii Sports Resort bundle is a gift that players of all ages and experience levels can enjoy,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

That's great news, I am actually very surprised. Not to sound like a shill, but you gotta give Nintendo credit for not being money-grubbers when they easily could, they generally throw the customer a bone every now and then.

I was more surprised to learn that the Wii Fit Plus game disk "update" (sans Balance Board) will be available for like $20 as well. Say what you want about Wii Fit, but I think we all know they could get away with charging a lot more for that, easily..

I agree that is good news. It kinda irks me though(and I assume others who bought Resort at release), since I have to spend $10 more to get a second Wii Motion Plus (Resort and 1 WMP for $50 + 1 WMP for $20 vs. getting the game and 2 WMPs for $60).

It also is sort of interesting because I just read an interview with Denise Kaigler where she said they wouldn't do a revised Wii bundle that came with Resort and Wii Motion Plus rather than the first Wii Sports. I'm just wondering if that sort of deal would help or hurt them.

Hum, I wonder why this is really happening. It isn't because it makes a great value to the customer, nice spin though Cammie. Me thinks the install base is too low to merit actually producing and developing games for the add-on and they are trying to find a way to get more of them out there... maybe another forgotten peripheral of this gen?

@ Adam: "maybe another forgotten peripheral of this gen?"

Well... it's already sold at least 5 million and is still selling really well, so I'd count that idea out. I think what they really want is for this game to start driving hardware sales.
