When the PSP Go launches October 1 in North America, a total 16,000 pieces of content will be downloadable for the system -- including 225 games, from full PSP titles to PlayStation Network exclusives, UMD games and Minis.
According to consumer news site IGN, Gran Turismo, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny and God of War: Chains of Olympus are some key titles available on the system's launch day. Consumers will also be able to buy in-store voucher cards for full downloads of titles including Daxter, Patapon 2, and Twisted Metal: Head-on, among others.
The big launch-day content figure also includes 2,300 downloadable movies and 13,300 television episodes, says the report.
One feature that won't be available is the ability for prior-gen PSP users to trade in physical UMDs they own for digital versions. Although Sony had been exploring a method to enable conversions, the company confirmed last week that legal and technical constraints make it impossible.

Personally, I own about 20-30 UMD's and would love to send them back to sony for free e-versions of those titles. I am unwilling to buy a $250 device that will force me to re-purchase what I consider to be the essential psp titles (about half the ones I own UMD's for), AND (more importantly - please take note Sony) - I am unwilling to buy any more UMD's for my current PSP as I (along with most consumers) have an issue with purchasing something on an obsolete (or soon to be) format.
This move puts current PSP users between a rock and a hard place. Thanks Sony for supporting those of us who supported you (*sarc). Time to pay a bit more attention to iPhone games and DS I guess :(
nothing for the umd movies. I didn't plan on turning in my umd's as i still have a working 3000 so this is how i envisioned it would be done.
If go stays on shelves or gets returned en mass then sony better provide for those that used to support them. Call me when psp 2 hits.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you-sony.
Pay a small sum (money would help pay for the retail space) and insert your UMD.
If the UMD has the checksum of a valid game, it goes into a lockbox and you get a code to download your free game.
letalone the smaller screen size and screwing over of the existing psp owners.
Sony could've added wireless n and i hate sown in battery devices as i can't replace a battery or swap out
a dead one for a fully charged one and here's a great move decrease the screen size...genius!!
As for the movie and television downloads, based on this article, am I correct in assuming that the same content that will be available in the US will be available in Canada.
I really hate when companies refer to the North American market when talking about the "US only market". If Sony managed to secure all those licenses then I am damn impressed. But I somehow doubt us Canucks will be downloading TV shows and movies any time soon.
Or ever.
Though i can't believe older titles or more obscure umd's couldn't be transferable for a small fee of between
$1-$5 based on disc size and popularity...and you'd be able to keep the physical umd as well.
This will be a nice train wreck of a launch otherwise.
I think the problem most people are having is that they were given the idea that current PSP owners could transfer their UMDs over. I'm not sure where this came from (I recall reading quotes that 'came from Sony', but they could have been false or out-of-context).
In retrospect, the idea of UMD transfer sounds crazy (either it would be expensive and/or open up a huge security hole). But the hope was out there.
version. Back then sony seemed to want to sell psp go but with over 200 umd's comprising both games and movies i won't be running out to buy a psp go.
Worse still they left wireless b in rather then enable wireless n for quick dl speeds.
Worse for sony i can simply dl future psp games on my 3000 without needing a new system.
I have a 16 gb pro duo card in my 3000 and if i ever buy go i can simply re-download the games.
If sony wants to see their new baby move then enabling conversion of umd's is important because if i could store all my games on the go+micro cards i'd be more than willing to buy because it offers
better portability but not being wireless n i'd be concerned that i'd take far too long for bigger games
to finish downloading @ a paltry 11mbps.
Why'd sony give the psp a makeover and not give it a touchscreen-anymore it's mandatory.
I bought a 1000,2000 for the tv out and slimer design and even 3000 for the better screen but after all that NONE of my current and still fully functional games or movies matter or work on go...that's like
going from ps2 to ps2 slim but all existing ps2 gaMES ARE UNREADABLE BY THE SLIM PS2.
Never has sony split a console like this i mean we're not exactly going from ps one-ps2-ps3 just going digital with an existing product.
I've no doubt the game makers want to be compensated digital or umd but with such a collection of
software including gradius ,castlevania and many nearly impossible to find games i believe if sony really wants to move go they'd research and find a way/come to an understanding with their partners that converting umd's means converting umd based psp owners to go owners and a completely digital
gamescape. So it's a win/win for sony and developers who no longer need issue physical media just put it up on the store.
I could easily get a 32gb micro stick for a psp go and fill it all up. I already have the media go on my
netbook all ready to fire up for converting everything.
If sony wanted to forge ahead to the digital future they should've just released psp 2 with wireless n,touchscreen and of course bluetooth 3.0.
Come thurs i won't be getting go and wish sony the best but fear many will buy it without knowing nothing they own already will work or worse buy it + a couple umd games that won't work.
Not everyone's as tech savy as we are and i expect returns en mass from the uninformed.
