Disney's worst-kept secret in game development, the Epic Mickey project, has finally been officially revealed by way of Game Informer magazine.
The cover story of the publication's November issue confirms the Junction Point-developed game, which is apparently keeping the "Epic Mickey" codename as its actual title, as being a single-player Wii exclusive shipping next fall.
Junction Point is headed up by veteran designer Warren Spector (Deus Ex, Ultima series), who co-founded the studio in 2005 with several other former employees of Ion Storm Austin. Disney acquired the company in 2007.
Epic Mickey itself has been the subject of widespread rumor since late 2008, when Gamasutra first revealed the existence of the game. Details released since have indicated that the player uses some kind of painting mechanic as protagonist Mickey traverses through a world inhabited by long-forgotten Disney characters who harbor resentment against the massively-successful mouse.
Concept artwork published earlier this year evoked a strong steampunk atmosphere for the game, but the Game Informer cover art, provided by Disney, appears to be closer to the style of more traditional Disney feature films.

Sadly, though, a loud anti-huzzah for this game being exclusive to the Wii. I accept that someone thinks there's business value in selling only to a subset of the available market. But it's still disappointing that this game won't reach a wider audience (including me).
So do Ryan and I cancel each other out? :D
I'm with Ryan, I'm glad to see this as a Wii exclusive. The PC is still my preferred platform, but it's good to see the Wii finally getting some love -- to many developers have neglected and abused it.
if ((Me + Ryan) > Bart) { WeWin(); }; :P
It should read WiiWin(), Chris.
BAH... I do enough code at work and now it's engulfed my off hours too!
Anyway, I like Warren's work, but this isn't a "must have" for me. At least not yet. Not that Disney can't be fun (and if anyone can pull it off, it's Warren), but Mickey Mouse? Really? I doubt I could convince my 6 year old son that he'd want to play it, and he watches Mickey on TV. Even his taste in games is generally a little past Mickey Mouse. Perhaps he's an edge case, having a gamer father.
I guess I can't leave without:
Hot dog hot dog hot diggity dog!
You don't played Castle of Illusions, do you?
I'm excited about this game! Oh boy!
