BioWare, EA Confirm Mass Effect 2 For January 2010

BioWare and owner Electronic Arts will launch the anticipated sci-fi RPG sequel Mass Effect 2 in January 2010, and offer pre-order bonus content, the companies said Friday.

Mass Effect 2 for Xbox 360 and PC will arrive more than two years after BioWare's original Mass Effect, which consumers and critics praised for its epic space odyssey storyline and strong presentation. Microsoft said the game sold 1.6 million units in its first six weeks.

Mass Effect 2 will be on North American store shelves on January 26, and on January 29 in Europe.

BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka reiterated that Mass Effect 2 is the second installment of a planned trilogy. He promised that the sequel "will be of amazingly high quality."

BioWare's Greg Zeschuk recently told Gamasutra that Mass Effect 2 will be a "much, much better game" thanks to feedback from players. He added that BioWare is excited to continue its original properties through sequels.

Edmonton-based BioWare also said that it will be offering North American customers who pre-order Mass Effect 2 bonus content via downloadable codes. Pre-order incentives include access to "special-ops armor and weaponry."

Simultaneous launch for console and PC, unlike the delayed launch for PC of the original Mass Effect?

Appreciated.

Good story AND gameplay instead of good story and crappy gameplay?

Mass Effect is still my current favourite from this generation of games. The gameplay was certainly lacking at times, but the whole thing still blew me away. Its the only single player game I've ever played over 5 times.

I was a little deceived from the first. I just hope that it will feel more than an interactive novel where taking important decisions has no effects or consequences at all.

If there is another novel after the second game, then I think it will be the same as the first. (Limited ending)

It is a pretty good story however and I want to know everything about it :) I indeed look forward to the sequel. :)

Loved the music in the first one. Kudos to Jack and Sam for a job well done. I'm eager to hear what they come up with for the next one.

Mass Effect was a great game, though I hope they introduce the chance to customize your character's appearance more than the first game. People love playing Oblivion, Fable and WoW partly because they can pimp up their character with different clothes, weapons, etc. The fact that in Mass Effect your character spent the whole game using similar-looking generic armour/weapons/clothes was very dull for me. It seemed odd that I was able to change every facet of my avatar's appearance at the beginning of the game, yet had to wear the same looking clothes as everyone else.
