Japanese Charts: Forza Motorsport 3 Cracks Top 10, PS3 Leads Wii

Microsoft and Turn 10's expansive Xbox 360 racing sim Forza Motorsport 3 was able to crack the top 10 rankings in typically Xbox-averse Japan last week, Media Create reported this week.

For the week ended October 25, Forza 3 debuted at number six with 32,000 units sold during the period. Forza 3's Japanese debut is the second Microsoft-published Xbox 360 game to make the country's weekly top 10 in about a month -- Halo 3: ODST sneaked in at number nine in late September.

While Forza 3 was one of four new titles to make the rankings this week, it was the Nintendo DS remakes -- Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver -- that again captured the top spot, with combined sales of 118,000 units.

Wii Fit Plus, Tomodachi Collection and Inazuma Eleven 2: Kyoui no Shinryakusha (Fire/Blizzard) also held the respective positions at the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively.

Sony's high-profile PlayStation 3 title Uncharted 2: Among Thieves dropped four spots to number nine this week. The Naughty Dog-developed game debuted last week in Japan at number five, selling 54,000 units.

Games falling off of the charts from the prior week were Capcom's Okami for Wii, Sony's Gran Turismo for PSP, Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey for DS and Konami's Love Plus for DS.

On the hardware front, the recently revamped, cheaper PlayStation 3 was able to fend off a recently price cut Nintendo Wii for the eighth week in a row. DSi sales led the charts in typical fashion.

Below are the Japanese software and hardware charts for the week ended October 25:

DSi: 42,199
PSP: 32,865
PS3: 29,977
Wii: 25,917
DS Lite: 6,550
Xbox 360: 4,470
PS2: 1,951
