PSN Struggles With Modern Warfare 2 Launch

Too many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 users trying to play the game's multiplayer mode on their PlayStation 3 overwhelmed PlayStation Network servers last night.

Updating users via Twitter, Infinity Ward community manager Robert "FourZeroTwo" Bowling described a "server overload," maintaining there was no problem with the game code itself. "Looks like it was the amount of connections at once that killed PSN," he wrote.

At first, users were allowed onto the service 20,000 at a time, a "temporary solution while they work on fortifying the infrastructure," according to Bowling. But just a couple hours later, Bowling reported that all issues had been resolved and users could play MW2's multiplayer on PSN without any limitations.

The game saw an unprecedentedly massive launch yesterday, selling 4.7 million copies just between the U.S. and the UK. Analysts are estimating the worldwide day-one total to be anywhere from 6 to 8 million.
