Japanese Software: Winning Eleven Takes Lead From Bayonetta

The latest version of Konami's popular soccer franchise World Soccer Winning Eleven debuted at number one in Japan, as the previous week's top game, Bayonetta, dropped down.

The PlayStation 3 version of World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 was number one for the week ended November 8, selling 218,000 units, according to Japanese tracking firm Media Create. The Xbox 360 version of the soccer game debuted at number 22.

The previous week's number one, the PS3 version of Sega's Bayonetta, fell to number eight, selling 30,000 compared to 135,000 from its debut week. The game, developed by Madworld house Platinum Games, came out strong a week prior partly thanks to very strong reviews in Japanese press, most notably from the magazine Famitsu.

Sega also released an Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta, which came in at number 15, down from last week's seventh place debut.

Aside from World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010, there were other new games breaking the Japanese top 10, including the DS role-playing game Summon Night X: Tears Crown from Namco Bandai, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, published in Japan by Nintendo.

One notable new release that didn't break the top 10 in Japan is Sucker Punch's open world PS3 superhero game Infamous, which debuted at number 14. Games dropping out of the top 10 from last week include Namco Bandai's Tekken 6 and Super Robot Taisen NEO.
