Saling The World:  Wii Fit Plus, New Super Mario Bros. Wii  Head U.S. Sales

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from November 19th, 2009, find Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii leading over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in North America, as World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 remains on top in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 5. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega).

Japan: 1. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 2. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Dodoon to 2 Daime! (Namco), 5. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Dodoon to 2 Daime! -- Tatacon Bundle (Namco).

UK: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

New Super Mario Bros. finishes at second place in Nintendo Wii software sales in its first week of release in North America. Wii Fit Plus again ranks as the region's biggest seller, while Wii Sports Resort is bumped to third place.

Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort are back on top in Japan after losing out to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers last week, while standalone and drum peripheral-bundled versions of Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Dodoon to 2 Daime! takes fourth and fifth place.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games), 4. Dragon Age: Origins (EA Games), 5. Halo 3: ODST (Microsoft).

Japan: 1. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games), 2. Steins;Gate (5pb), 3. Bayonetta (Sega), 4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Square Enix), 5. Chaos;Head Noah (5pb).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 4. Forza Motorsport 3 (Microsoft), 5. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remains the Xbox 360's top seller for the second week in a row in the United States, though the title has since been beaten by Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii in terms of multiplatform sales.

Assassin's Creed II and Left 4 Dead 2 see big first-week sales, meanwhile, as Dragon Age: Origins and Halo 3: ODST round out the domestic charts.

North America: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. God of War Collection (SCEA), 4. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEA), 5. Dragon Age: Origins (EA Games).

Japan: 1. World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 (Konami), 2. Ratchet & Clank Future 2 (SCEI), 3. Uncharted: Ougontou to Kieta Sendan (SCEI), 4. inFamous (SCEI), 5. Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (Bandai).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 4. Need for Speed: Shift (EA Games), 5. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEE).

Assassin's Creed II makes an impressive debut this week on the PlayStation 3 in North America and the UK, but ultimately comes up short against the reigning chart champion Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in both regions.

The PS3-exclusive God of War series compilation God of War Collection finishes its first week of U.S. release at third place, as former chart leader Uncharted 2: Among Thieves drops to fourth place.


PlayStation 2
North America: 1. Madden NFL 10 (EA Sports), 2. WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2010 (THQ), 3. NCAA Football 10 (EA Sports), 4. FIFA Soccer 10 (EA Sports), 5. Kingdom Hearts -- Greatest Hits (Square Enix).

Japan: 1. Persona 4 (Atlus), 2. Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress + Premium Best (Konami), 3. Okami -- PlayStation 2 the Best (Capcom), 4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas -- Best Price (Capcom), 5. SD Gundam G Generation Wars (Bandai).

UK: 1. SingStar: Take That (SCEA), 2. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 3. SingStar: ABBA (SCEE), 4. Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (Konami), 5. SingStar: Queen (SCEE).

Madden NFL 10 and WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2010 remain the PS2's top sellers in North America for the second week in a row. NCAA Football moves up to capture third place, as Kingdom Hearts returns to the top five at fifth place.

Persona 4 steals the top spot from Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress + Premium Best in Japan, meanwhile, as Okami moves up past Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to finish third.


PC
North America: 1. Dragon Age: Origins (EA Games), 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 3. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games), 4. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 5. Nancy Drew: Warnings of Waverly Academy (Her Interactive).

Japan: 1. Left 4 Dead 2 (Zoo), 2. Lineage Episode 1 Memorial Package (E Frontier), 3. SimCity 4 Deluxe (EA Games), 4. Ragnarok Online RWC2009 Memorial Package (E Frontier), 5. Monster Hunter Online Season 6.0 Premium Package (Capcom).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. Football Manager 2010 (Sega), 3. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA Games), 4. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 5. The Sims 3: World Adventures Expansion Pack (EA Games).

Despite the strength of recent releases like Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2, BioWare's Dragon Age: Origins continues to lead the PC charts in the United States.

The Sims 3 maintains a chart presence at fourth place, meanwhile, as Nancy Drew: Warnings of Waverly Academy sees a surge in popularity that lands it at fifth place in weekly sales numbers.


Nintendo DS
North America: 1. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 3. Scribblenauts (Warner Bros.), 4. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 5. Style Savvy (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Wizardry: Seimei no Setsu (Genterprise), 2. Tomodachi Collection (Nintendo), 3. Pocket Monsters: Soul Silver (Nintendo), 4. Pocket Monsters: Heart Gold (Nintendo), 5. Love Plus (Konami).

UK: 1. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (Nintendo), 2. Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force (Disney), 3. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo), 4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega), 5. Junior Brain Trainer DS (Avanquest).

New Super Mario Bros. moves up to second place in the domestic Nintendo DS charts this week, with sales boosted by the popularity of the recently released New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Scribblenauts drops to third, as Nintendo's fashion boutique simulator Style Savvy enters the charts for the first time at fifth place.

The Amazon.co.jp-exclusive Wizardry: Seimei no Setsu debuts as this week's top DS seller in Japan, while Tomodachi Collection and Pocket Monsters Soul Silver and Heart Gold follow close behind.


PlayStation Portable
North America: 1. Half-Minute Hero (Xseed), 2. LittleBigPlanet (SCEA), 3. Madden NFL 10 (EA Sports), 4. Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines (Ubisoft), 5. Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues (LucasArts).

Japan: 1. Persona 3 Portable (Atlus), 2. J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 6: Pride of J (Sega), 3. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G -- PSP the Best (Capcom), 4. Elminage II: Sousei no Megami to Unmei no Daichi (Starfish), 5. Armored Core: Silent Line Portable (From Software).

UK: 1. Invizimals (SCEE), 2. FIFA 10 (EA Sports), 3. LittleBigPlanet (SCEE), 4. Gran Turismo (SCEE), 5. Formula 1 2009 (Codemasters).

Xseed's action-strategy hybrid RPG Half-Minute Hero heads the North American PSP charts this week, thanks to a recent "Deal of the Day" price drop at Amazon.

Sony's PSP port of LittleBigPlanet also sees big sales numbers, as Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines and Lego Indiana Jones 2 take fourth and fifth place in their debut week.

Wow the Ps3 and Xbox360 crowds have the same taste. It sad that the market has to split the same game on two different system just to make a profit. Imagine the pain third parties would endure of only one of the companies owned the HD side of the street. As for my taste I bought Dragons Age: Orgins and Call of Duty 6 for PS3. So my taste were more in line with PC gamers.
