Modern Warfare 2 Leads For Third Consecutive Week In UK

Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 topped unit sales rankings in the UK for the third week in a row, despite slowing sales of the title, Chart-Track said Monday.

Unit sales of the game dropped 32 percent during the week ended November 28, but it was still enough for Modern Warfare 2 to hang onto the top spot on the all-platforms chart, the tracking firm said. In Modern Warfare 2's opening day in the UK, the title reportedly sold 1.23 million units in the region. First-week revenues hit £67.4 million ($111.8 million) in the UK.

Modern Warfare 2, released November 10, generated $550 million in its first week worldwide, pushing Call of Duty franchise sales over $3 billion, Activision recently said.

The top three games for the most recent week carried over from the prior week. Following Modern Warfare 2 once again are the recently released games Assassin's Creed 2 from Ubisoft and New Super Mario Bros. Wii from Nintendo.

The only game to drop out of the top 10 from last week was Warner Bros. Interactive's Lego Batman: The Videogame, developed by Traveller's Tales. F1 2009 from Sumo Digital and Codemasters rose from the number 11 spot last week to number 10 to bump Lego Batman.

UK All-Platforms Top 10

1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft)
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo)
4. FIFA 10 (EA)
5. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
6. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)
7. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega)
8. Left 4 Dead 2 (EA)
9. Forza Motorsport 3 (Microsoft)
10. F1 2009 (Codemasters)

UK Individual Platforms Top 10

While Modern Warfare 2 also topped the individual platforms charts for the prior two weeks, this week, New Super Mario Bros. Wii was able to outsell all other titles. The individual platforms list ranks games according to unit sales of each version of a given title.

Below are the individual platform rankings for the week, which show three Nintendo titles in the top five:

1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, Wii)
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision, Xbox 360)
3. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo, Wii)
4. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Wii)
5. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft, Xbox 360)
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision, PS3)
7. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft, PS3)
8. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega, Wii)

A sales drop of 32% from the 250,000 sold in the second week, gives you
170,000 MW2 units sold in the third week. MW2 continues to outsell NSMB(Wii) in sales into the third week, and further increase the gap with NSMB (wii) to over 2 million units.

MW2 UK sales:
Week 1 : 1.78 million
Week 2 : .25 million
Week 3 : .17 million
Total MW2 UK sales in 3 weeks: 2.2 million

Way I see it, MW2 is solidly on track to become the biggest selling game in UK history, a record which is currently held by Brain Training(DS) at 3 million sold {www.casualgaming.biz/news/2885...awashima-breaks-UK-sales-crown}.
In just 3 week's, MW2 has already sold 73% of Brain Traning life to date sales, and it took Brain Traning 3 years to get those 3 million sales. By the end of December alone, MW2 UK sales should have hit at least 2.6 million.

This week's figures are for the last week of November, no?
Why don't you watch MW2 sales for 2 weeks and a week before Christmas?
Hint: They don't have Black Friday in the UK.
The important thing here is that MW2 continues to outsell NSMB(Wii), even after selling 2.2 million units in just 3 weeks, compared to less than 200,000 for NSMB(Wii).
