Report: PSP Minis To Be Playable On PS3?

The bite-size PSP Minis aimed at the download-only PSP Go may soon be playable on Sony's PlayStation 3 console, according to media reports.

Consumer weblog Joystiq claims to have confirmed with multiple sources that the Minis will make the shift "this month," prior to the Christmas holiday, although Sony has declined to comment, calling it "rumor [and] speculation."

The report also says the Minis will have their screen resolution increased to better suit television sets. A portion of the catalog currently on offer is believed to be included in the plan.

The PSP Go had a fairly soft launch at the beginning of October, and has maintained a relatively low profile since then. Sony has spoken little of how either the Minis or the new digital handheld are performing, preferring to group it with the earlier PSP as an aggregate category.

Lower-priced and with much smaller file sizes than traditional PSP games, Minis appear to be Sony's response to the thriving small apps market popularized by the iPhone.

When the company announced the program, it said it planned a total of 50 titles for 2009. There are currently just over 20 U.S. PSP Minis available, as of early December.

Sony really needs to make it so I can play the downloadable PSP games from the Playstation Store on my PS3. I want to play Jeanne d'Arc without dusting off my PSP, charging it, and then ruining my eyesight.
