Modern Warfare 2 Leads For Fourth Straight Week In UK

Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 led unit sales charts for the fourth consecutive week in the UK, as FIFA 10 rose to number two in the rankings.

UK-based Chart-Track said Monday that sales of Modern Warfare 2 were down 7 percent week-on-week for the week ended December 5. But the game still managed to fend off a 24 percent rise in unit sales from EA Sports' FIFA 10 on the all-platforms list, which takes into account unit sales of all versions of a given game.

Modern Warfare 2 launched on November 10, and has been an outstanding commercial success. The game generated $550 million in its first week worldwide, pushing Call of Duty franchise sales over $3 billion, Activision recently said.

Last week's number two, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 2, dropped one spot to number three, while Nintendo's latest hit, New Super Mario Bros. Wii also fell a spot to number four.

Chart-Track said that sales of Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus both rose by 30 percent and 21 percent respectively. There were four Nintendo-published games in the top 10 this week.

Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 dropped out of the top 10 from last week, capturing the number 14 spot this week. Codemasters' F1 2009 also dropped out of the top 10 to the 16th spot.

Pandemic's The Saboteur was the only new game to appear in the top 40, Chart-Track said. The title debuted at 39.
