Gameloft shuts down New Zealand studio
January 27, 2016 | By Christian Nutt

Gamasutra has learned that Gameloft has shut down yet another studio: This time, its New Zealand location has been closed.

According to an affected staffer, the studio laid off "around 160 people" in the shutdown. Gamasutra has spoken to two different staff members who were affected by the closure.

The studio developed games including Zoo Rescue, My Little Pony, and Littlest Pet Shop, according to a New Zealand-based recruitment site.

The company shuttered seven studios in 2015, including locations in Tokyo, New York City, and Seattle

However, it also opened a new office just last week, in Nigeria.

Gamasutra has reached out to a Gameloft spokesperson for official comment.

If you were affected and can share details, you can email us confidentially at news@gamasutra.com

UPDATE, January 28, 2016: A Gameloft spokesperson offered Gamasutra this statement:

In the past twelve months, Gameloft has been actively managing its production organization and refocusing on it most efficient and experienced creation centers in order to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions and to increase revenues more profitably.
