Nintendo Q1 2010 Release List Includes Pokemon , Digital Indie Support

Nintendo of America published its early 2010 lineup for Wii and Nintendo DS, as well as its digital platforms WiiWare and DSiWare, including first-party titles Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, WarioWare: D.I.Y., Endless Ocean: Blue World, and America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking, along with a slate of 102 third-party games.

Nintendo plans to release five games across retail Wii and Nintendo DS in the first quarter of 2010 -- the same number it listed on last year's corresponding list -- but it has another seven on tap for WiiWare and DSi.

In the third-party arena, Ubisoft is the publisher throwing the most support to Wii in that time frame -- and considerably more than Nintendo itself -- as well as the publisher with the most "core" game support for the platform. In addition to its Sleepover Party and Racquet Sports, the company's four games for the quarter include Grasshopper Manufacture's No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle in "early January and its own Red Steel 2 at an unspecified date.

Overall, the evergreen DS is attracting considerably more third-party support than Wii: external publishers are delivering 52 retail games to the system, versus 34 on Wii. SouthPeak has the most with five Q1 games, including Renegade Kid's DS horror sequel Dementium II.

Previously-seen indies have some presence on the digital formats as well: Team Meat's Super Meat Boy, a successor to the online Flash game Meat Boy, is coming to WiiWare alongside Broken Rules' And Yet It Moves, which is currently sold digitally on PC.

On DSiWare, Subatomic Studios' acclaimed iPhone tower defense game Fieldrunners is on the slate, as is WayForward's Shantae: Risky's Revenge, a sequel to the independent studio's 2002 Game Boy Color platformer.

The best thing about this list is that Cave Story isn't listed...which leaves hope for it coming out before the end of the year.
