As part of the latter track, ILMxLAB head Rob Bredow, principal engineer Lutz Latta and Skywalker Sound audio engineer Kevin Bolen will be delivering a great talk about "Immersive Cinema: Stories from the experiments underway at Lucasfilm's ILMxLAB."
In this session the aforementioned artists and engineers show a rare look into the creative and technical experiments underway at the studio.
Make time to check it out, because you're meant to walk away with the lessons learned bringing cinematic experiences to virtual reality, how to transport one of the most iconic movie franchises with a well-established visual and storytelling language to a new medium, as well as the hardware and software solutions for bringing movie quality content to high frame-rate virtual reality experiences.
And of course, there will be lots of other great talks announced for VRDC and GDC proper in the weeks between now and the conference. For more details on all announced talks, make sure to check out the GDC 2016 Session Scheduler.
VRDC will take place the first two days of GDC 2016 (Monday, March 14th and Tuesday, March 15th) and offer developers of all stripes the opportunity to explore and discuss interactive experiences, including both linear and non-linear VR and AR projects.
Passes to attend VRDC will also grant entrance to the main GDC Expo Floor from March 16th-18th, where many of VR's biggest names will be showcasing their latest technology. By the same token, all GDC Summits and GDC All-Access Pass holders will also have access to all VRDC content.
GDC 2016 itself will take place March 14-18th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. For more information on GDC 2016, visit the show's official website, or subscribe to regular updates via Facebook, Twitter, or RSS.
