3D Gaming Summit Planned For April 2010

With stereoscopic 3D gaming slowly gaining ground, organizers of the 3D Entertainment Summit have announced a video game-specific event, the 3D Gaming Summit, to be held in Los Angeles next year.

The first 3D Gaming Summit will be a two-day affair starting April 21, 2010, and is being pitched as a "strategy and networking" event for executives, game developers, and analysts, focusing on the best ways to adopt and capitalize on 3D technology in games. An exhibition area will also allow 3D technology providers to demonstrate their products.

The existing 3D Entertainment Summit has run for two years. Both events are produced by business communications company Unicomm and former Hollywood Reporter editor Bob Dowling, in association with Variety.

"It is clear games have driven entertainment for the last many decades," Dowling said in a statement. "Interactive entertainment is both more challenging and more satisfying. The advent of stereoscopic 3D only amplifies the intensity and immersion in the actual experience."

"When stereoscopic 3D is in the consumer’s home through 3D enabled television the game industry will again take a significant leap forward," he added.

Other event partners for the Summit -- for which more information is available on its official website -- include the S-3D Gaming Alliance (of which game developer Blitz is a member) and 3D gaming-focused consumer site Meant to Be Seen.
