The Google Play store, and Android apps, coming to Chromebooks soon

May 19, 2016 | By Christian Nutt

Today at its Google I/O developer event, the company announced that the Google Play store, and consequently a huge swath of games, is coming to its Chromebook computing platform.

Soon, a few devices -- the ASUS Chromebook Flip, the Acer Chromebook R 11 and the latest Chromebook Pixel -- will support Android apps on the developer channel in mid-June. But the company plans to roll out support to consumer devices following that.

The company promises that developers will "easily" be able to bring their apps to its laptops, though details are scant so far.

There's a list of devices the company plans to support, with a rollout schedule, at the Chromebook help blog.
