Japanese Hardware: DS Line Holds Top Slot As Rankings Stay Static

Hardware sales rankings were static week-on-week in Japan, as sales of Nintendo's DS line of handhelds once again secured the top spot, with the PSP following in second, Media-Create said Friday.

For the week ended February 14, the Nintendo DS line of hardware -- which includes the DS Lite, DSi, and the DSi LL -- sold 51,327 units, down only slightly from a total of 52,606 a week prior. Individually, the DSi LL sold 27,586, the DSi 18,802, and the DS Lite 5,659.

Broken down by model, the PSP-3000 was again the top-selling individual piece of hardware, moving 39,293 for the week. The UMD-less PSP Go continued its ongoing downward sales slide, selling only 1,394 units for a total PSP family unit count of 40,687.

On the home console front, Wii was tops with 37,501 units sold, only slightly below PSP-3000. PlayStation 3 sales stayed relatively static at 24,811, and Xbox 360 dropped slightly to 3,428.

Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended February 14, 2009 (the bottom chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware).
