Contra 4 Dev Making Batman Game For Wii, DS

WayForward Technologies, the developer behind the well-received Contra 4 for Nintendo DS, is currently working on a new superhero video game for Wii and DS, Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame.

The game was announced by publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which recently saw considerable success with another Batman game, Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game's critical and commercial accomplishments led Warner to acquire a majority stake in the company.

WayForward's title is a co-op adventure based on the animated Cartoon Network series of the same name, which revolves around Batman teaming up with various other DC Universe heroes. In addition to standard co-op, Warner says players can link the Wii and DS versions of the game to allow the DS player to control the "Bat-Mite" character within the Wii game.

While WayForward has developed original properties, most notably its 2002 platformer Shantae, the company is best known for its adaptations of licensed IP. Contra 4 was well-received by critics and players, and the studio has garnered notice for various other titles including Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck and A Boy and His Blob.

"Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame further illustrates the diverse appeal of the Batman brand and the gameplay is a fun, vibrant extension of the animated series," said Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment development and production SVP Samantha Ryan in a statement. The game is set to ship this fall.

Here's hoping they can make a good kid friendly Batman. I hope the game is as outlandish as the show. Batman: The Brave and the Bold always reminds me of old DARE and Scruff the Crime dog ads. Or the psa's at the end of 80s cartoons---most famous being GI Joe. I just laugh at the long monologues, moral statements, and other random goody two shoe moments.

Please be like Batman: The Video Game for Megadrive/Genesis/arcade. It is still the best Batman game I have ever played.

I like this idea of the campy Batman universe in a Contra-esque game. I think that would resonate well. both gamers and kids win. And for the ones who want a more mature Batman game, we'll have Arkham Asylum 2 on the way.
