Wii Japan Total Passes 10 Million

Nintendo has sold over 10 million Wii consoles in Japan to date, a milestone it took 170 weeks to reach.

So says new data from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, which puts the exact Japan figure at 10,009,736, according to consumer weblog Kotaku's translation.

And according to that same report, the PlayStation 2 reached the 10 million mark much faster, hitting it in 131 weeks. The PlayStation 3 has sold 4,766,408 units in Japan to date, while the Xbox 360 has sold 1,235,049 units.

Nintendo recently said its Wii plays host to 76 titles that have sold a million units or more globally -- 22 first-party games and 54 third-party games. The company's software lineup for the first half of the year is further expected to drive hardware sales particularly among core gamers, with releases like Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Monster Hunter Tri on the horizon.

The really has fallen way behind the PS2 in Japan. But US and Others region more than make up for it to outpace the PS2 overall.

Monster Hunter Tri Is the last game I will buy this year at retail price. I really want to play that game. I do need to finish the games I bought last year before purchasing any more new ones. >_<
