Harmonix Releasing Green Day: Rock Band This June

Harmonix and MTV Games revealed Green Day: Rock Band, a new standalone title from their popular music game franchise, releasing worldwide on June 8th for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii.

The forthcoming music game allows players to take on the role of rock trio Green Day, which includes Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals/guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tre Cool (Drums). As players advance through the group's story and history, they'll also unlock over 100 collectible images, as well as more than 40 minutes of rare and unreleased video from interviews, outtakes, and performances.

Green Day: Rock Band features the same three-part vocal harmony technology introduced in The Beatles: Rock Band, and offers 47 tracks from Green Day's career, including popular singles like "Brain Stew", "Jaded", "Hitchin’ a Ride", "American Idiot", "Wake Me Up When September Ends", and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

Every track is exportable, too, allowing players to bring the songs into Rock Band, Rock Band 2, or the upcoming Rock Band 3. The six downloadable Green Day tracks already available in the Rock Band Music Store will also include new vocal harmonies, unique performance visuals, and exclusive archival material when played in Green Day: Rock Band.

MTV Games and Harmonix have priced the standalone (no instrument controllers) edition of Green Day: Rock Band for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at $59.99, while the standalone version for Wii is $49.99. The game is compatible with all Rock Band instrument controllers, most Guitar Hero instrument controllers, and other third-party music game peripherals and microphones.

The companies will also release a $69.99 Green Day: Rock Band Plus bundle for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America with special packaging, an export feature (presumably for exporting the game's tracks the system's hard drive) and the six previously released Green Day downloadable tracks.
