GDC: EA LA Vets Form Digital Download Dev Supergiant
A couple former developers from Electronic Arts Los Angeles have formed Supergiant Games, an independent studio planning to release a new title for digital download platforms in 2011.

Amir Rao, formerly a game designer at EA LA who worked on the Command & Conquer series during his three years at the company, "runs" the studio and manages design/direction for its projects.

Gavin Simon, who was an AI designer at the EA studio for two years, now works as Supergiant's gameplay engineer. Musician Darren Korb handles all the audio work, including sound effects and mixing, at the new developer.

Co-founders Rao and Simon quit their jobs at EA LA last year to "move into a house together and make games". Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the small company hasn't yet revealed any details about their game under development, but it is demonstrating the title behind closed doors at the Game Developers Conference and intends to reveal more about the project in the coming weeks.

While the main team is comprised of only three employees, Supergiant has a "small army of freelancers in orbit around the team". It is also currently seeking talented 2D artists.

Amir and Gavin are two of the best, smartest, most forward thinking young developers I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Why don't they just call themselves by their actual names?

Why doesn't this story read "Amir Rao, Gavin Simon and Darren Korb - former EA vets - begin new project"?

Build your name. I know it's a long journey, but still...

Anyone know who Mike Zoss Productions is? I doubt it. They are the Cohen Brothers' production company. Everyone knows who the Cohen Brothers are.

If Mike Zoss Productions went belly up one day, and the Cohen Brothers hadn't built their names as creators, the audience wouldn't be able to connect with their next projects. But because everyone knows who the Cohen Brothers are, Mike Zoss Productions could die and it wouldn't matter. They could still command a budget to make a new film because they have built their actual names.

Build your names as creators.
