Lukewarm Media Licenses EKI One Behavior Tools For Primal Carnage

Independent developer Lukewarm Media has licensed Artificial Technology's EDI One behavior middleware for its upcoming dinosaur-themed multiplayer shooter Primal Carnage, the companies said today.

The team-based game will employ EKI One behaviors for both the dinosaurs as well as other computer-controlled human characters. Artificial Technology says its software implements movement, pathfinding, perception, decision-making, planning, and other AI-related behaviors.

Initially formed as a mod team working with Crytek's CryEngine 2 on the action RPG Light Spire: Fortune's Web, Lukewarm Media is a distributed team with members located around the world but which considers its headquarters to be in Boston.

"We are impressed by Lukewarm Media's talented team and professionalism, and we are convinced that Primal Carnage has the potential to set a new benchmark in this genre," said Artificial Technology CEO Frank Gwosdz. "Supporting independent studios is a very important issue to us. With our one-stop solution, EKI One, we are helping these developers to stake their claim in the market."

During this year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Lukewarm announced that Primal Carnage is based on the Unigine engine.

No target platforms for the game have been officially announced, although it is almost certain to be in development for PC. Lukewarm is planning to release the game in late 2010.
