Publisher Nordic Games rebrands as THQ Nordic

August 12, 2016 | By Chris Kerr

Just over two years after it purchased the THQ trademark, publisher Nordic Games has rebranded as THQ Nordic.

Nordic initially bought the rights to the name so it could publish titles under the THQ brand, with the company having purchased multiple franchises -- including Darksiders and Red Faction -- after THQ was put on the chopping block in January 2013.

At the time, Nordic said it may publish future games under the THQ banner. Now, with 23 game projects in development, the majority of which are based on THQ IPs and franchises, the publisher says it's the right time to resurrect the THQ brand.

"Whilst we take great pride in our Swedish roots and accomplished a great deal under the Nordic Games masthead, we decided it was time to incorporate the THQ name," said the Vienna-based outfit

"Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordic represents a core approach of doing much more than 'owning' a highly competitive portfolio of IPs."

Although it didn't offer any information on those upcoming titles, it's worth pointing out that Nordic holds the rights to former THQ franchises including De Blob, Destroy All Humans!, Stuntman, MX vs. ATV, and Titan Quest.
