Arma dev Bohemia opens new label for experimental games

November 1, 2016 | By Alex Wawro

Prague-based Bohemia Interactive, developer of the Arma games and the standalone version of DayZ, has launched a new label dedicated to publicizing and promoting its experimental game projects: Bohemia Incubator

What's intriguing about this is that Bohemia is being very upfront about its desire to release games to the public that are experimental and early in development -- earlier even than much of what's found on Steam's Early Access service.

The company admits the Incubator project is itself an experiment, one that fellow devs might be able to learn from as it moves forward.

Incubator has launched with two projects: the "cheerful sandbox game" Ylands and Project Argo, a competitive FPS total conversion for Bohemia's own military shooter Arma 3. Both are freely available, and Bohemia notes in a FAQ that it expects all Incubator projects will be released for free -- at least initially.
