  Sucker Punch Developing Infamous Sequel

Sucker Punch Developing Infamous Sequel

After months of rumors, confirmation of a sequel to the 2009 PlayStation 3 hit Infamous has surfaced, with Sucker Punch Productions again handling development on the open-world action game.

Consumer print publication Game Informer made the game public when it revealed its July issue cover image, featuring a considerably redesigned version of series protagonist Cole MacGrath.

That character makeover served as the underpinning for one of the more substantiated rumors of the game's existence. Late last year, actor David Sullivan posted a now-removed Twitter message claiming his involvement in the "re-casting of Cole in the sequel of Infamous," which he subsequently further confirmed in several posts, all of which were also removed.

"'I'll melt your face.' e.g," the actor added, presumably as an example of in-game dialogue he had recorded.

The original Infamous sold more than a million copies, and received positive reviews.

Seattle-area development studio Sucker Punch, also known for its Sly Cooper platformer series, is independent but has developed exclusively for Sony platforms ever since it completed its 1999 Nintendo 64 title Rocket: Robot on Wheels.

I'm looking forward to the next Infamous. The design and pacing of the first game was excellent. There was a mention a while back that Sucker Punch was adding multi-player support to the game. Looking forward to see what they have in mind.

An Infamous sequel, that's shocking!

Horrible jokes aside, I really enjoyed the game and the Open World Trickery article was interesting. I remember the Game itself was rated Teen; However when I played the game, it didn't seem directly targeted at a younger audience. The concept of making an open world super-hero game from the ground-up really seemed to work well. Powers and Design Decisions really worked hand in hand to make a good game.

They need to make this game alot faster, in terms of movement and getting from point A to point B...thats what I didnt like about the first game, was how long it actually took you to get to places.
But...I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Who is the guy in the picture? It doesn't look anything like Cole from the last game. Weird.

Rob,

As the news story states, it is "a considerably redesigned version of series protagonist Cole MacGrath."

I'm glad that they considered a redesign for Cole. He had interesting clothes, but his complexion and attitude reflected a personality that got exactly what it wanted with the power, not someone who was dealing with a fallen city, numerous enemies, and the new and dangerous experiences his powers afforded him. The old Cole wore a face that said, I've been waiting for this, I'm an action hero, and I know it.

But the new Cole...he looks too...Nathan Drake-ish. The friendly buddy-buddy protagonist. He looks almost too care free. They're saying they want him to be "a little gritty, a little street" but he's taken on a cleaner appearance overall. I think they went too far in this direction, considering the setting.

Though I'm liking the environment design.

Looking forward to seeing this franchise develop and how far they can push their mechanics.
