Saling The World:  Red Dead, Persona 3 Portable  Lead U.S. Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from July 8th, 2010, find Red Dead Redemption and Persona 3 Portable racking up big sales in North America, as Nintendo's Wii Party is off to an impressive start in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 3. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 4. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Wii Party (Nintendo), 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Xenoblade (Nintendo), 5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo), 2. Dance on Broadway (Ubisoft), 3. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 4. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Just Dance lead this week's Wii software sales in the United States, pushing last week's chart champion Lego Harry Potter to fourth place.

Nintendo's minigame compilation Wii Party debuts as this week's biggest seller in Japan, as Ubisoft's Dance on Broadway and Super Mario Galaxy 2 battle it out for the top spot in the UK.

North America: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 3. Crackdown 2 (Microsoft), 4. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 5. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Riot Act 2 (Microsoft), 2. Monster Hunter Frontier Online: Beginner's Package (Capcom), 3. Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra (5pb), 4. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (Arc System Works), 5. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar).

UK: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Crackdown 2 (Microsoft), 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 4. Sniper: Ghost Warrior (City Interactive), 5. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.)

Red Dead Redemption reclaims the top Xbox 360 sales spot in North America this week, with Modern Warfare 2 and the debuting Crackdown 2 overtaking last week's leader Lego Harry Potter.

Crackdown 2 also makes an impressive debut in Japan (as Riot Act 2), and rivals Red Dead Redemption in the European charts.

Japan: 1. Shirokishi Monogatari: Hikari to Yami no Kakusei (SCEI), 2. Totori no Atelier: Arland no Renkinjutsushi 2 (Gust), 3. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (Arc System Works), 4. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 5. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (Take 2 Interactive Japan).

UK: 1. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 2. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 3. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 4. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (SCEE), 5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision).

EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa climbs up to second place in U.S. PlayStation 3 software sales, while Red Dead Redemption remains the platform's biggest domestic seller.

Sony's White Knight Chronicles sequel Shirokishi Monogatari: Hikari to Yami no Kakusei premieres as this week's top seller across all platforms in Japan, meanwhile, as Battlefield: Bad Company returns to the charts in the UK.

North America: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. Dragon Age: Origins (EA Games), 3. Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition (Microsoft), 4. The Sims 3: High-End Loft Stuff (EA Games), 5. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 7.0 Premium Package (Capcom), 2. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 6.0 Premium Package (Capcom), 3. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 4. The Sims 3: Ambition Data Set (EA Games), 5. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 8.0 Premium Package (Capcom).

UK: 1. Football Manager 2010 (Sega), 2. The Sims 3: Ambitions (EA Games), 3. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 5. Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition (Microsoft).

BioWare's Dragon Age: Origins climbs up to second place in North American PC software sales following the recent announcement of an upcoming sequel, as The Sims 3 maintains its sales lead.

Capcom's Monster Hunter Frontier continues to do brisk business in Japan, and Sega's Football Manager 2010 remains on top in Europe.

UK: 1. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.), 2. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (Nintendo), 3. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo), 4. Pokemon SoulSilver Version (Nintendo), 5. Club Penguin: Herbert's Revenge (Disney).

This week's Nintendo DS chart in North America finds Nintendo's Mario Kart DS at first place, as Toy Story 3 and Lego Harry Potter lead over New Super Mario Bros. and Nintendo's novel compilation 100 Classic Books.

Konami's Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side 3rd Story retakes the lead in Japan, where Love Plus+ holds its own against the Spark and Bomber versions of Level 5's Inazuma Eleven 3.

UK: 1. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami), 2. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 3. LittleBigPlanet (SCEE), 4. Formula 1 2009 (Codemasters), 5. Football Manager Handheld 2010 (Sega).

Atlus heads PSP sales in North America this week with a port of its hit PlayStation 2 RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, knocking last week's chart leader Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to second place.

Peace Walker stays on top in the UK, meanwhile, as Sony's Boku no Natsuyasumi Portable 2 and Idea Factory's Hakuouki Portable remain big sellers in Japan.
