Emergent Signs Licensing Deal With Chinese Internet Portal Tencent

Emergent Game Technologies, the company behind the multiplatform Gamebryo and Gamebryo LightSpeed engines, announced today a multi-SKU licensing deal with Tencent, a Chinese provider for Internet and mobile value-added services.

Tencent’s interactive entertainment division develops and hosts a catalog of online games, including shooters like Cross Fire, MMOs such as Fantastic Melody Online, and a collection of casual and social online games. Tencent plans to use the Gamebryo engine for several of its unannounced projects.

“Tencent is a true global success story, continually innovating with each level of its business and we look forward to a long, integrated partnership to help them realize the next level of videogame entertainment,” said Scott M. Johnson, CEO of Emergent Game Technologies.

Tencent is one of several recent licensees for the Gamebryo engine. Emergent’s technology has been used in games such as Warhammer Online, Fallout 3 and Civilization: Revolution, which all used modified versions of the Gamebryo engine.

According to Emergent, Gamebryo and Gamebryo LightSpeed have been used to develop over 300 games.
