Top-Grossing iTunes Apps: Madden NFL 11 Sells Big on iPhone, Tops iPad Charts

Every week, sister iPhone and iPad site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra.

This week's U.S. revenue charts see EA's Madden NFL 10 racking up impressive sales in its first day of release, as Osmos rivals Angry Birds for the top iPhone chart spot.

These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 Games chart, which is ranked by sales, and therefore is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies.

Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings.

This week's top-grossing iPhone titles are:

1. Angry Birds ($0.99)
2. Osmos ($2.99)
3. Madden NFL 11 ($7.99)
4. Fragger ($0.99)
5. Bejeweled 2 + Blitz ($2.99)
6. Tetris ($2.99)
7. Plants vs. Zombies ($2.99)
8. Doodle Jump ($0.99)
9. Monopoly ($2.99)
10. Hungry Shark Part 2 ($0.99)

The recently released iPhone version of Hemisphere Games' Osmos finishes at second place in today's top-grossing games chart, coming up just short of Clickgamer's reigning champion Angry Birds. EA's Madden NFL 11 claims third place in its first day of release, as Miniclip's updated Fragger follows at fourth.

PopCap's Bejeweled 2 and EA's Tetris remain popular favorites, as Future Games of London's Hungry Shark Part 2 enters the chart behind Monopoly at tenth place.

Here are this week’s top-grossing iPad applications:

1. Madden NFL 11 for iPad ($12.99)
2. Angry Birds HD ($4.99)
3. Scrabble for iPad ($9.99)
4. Fishies (Free)
5. We Farm (Free)
6. Highborn HD ($2.99)
7. Plants vs. Zombies HD ($9.99)
8. Little Things ($2.99)
9. Wheel of Fortune HD ($4.99)
10. Tap Ranch (Free)

EA's Madden NFL 11 leads as today's highest-grossing iPad game app, dropping last week's sales leader Angry Birds HD to second place. Scrabble for iPad trails at third, as the free-to-play Fishies and We Farm take fourth and fifth place.

Jet Set Games' Highborn HD enters the top ten following a recent update, putting it ahead of PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies HD in daily revenue. Klicktock's hidden object game Little Things makes its first chart appearance at eighth, as Sony's Wheel of Fortune HD and BayView Labs' Tap Ranch close out today's results.
