Cryptic Studios chief creative officer Bill Roper has confirmed today that he's resigning his position with the studio after two years, hoping to pursue new projects.

"For the past two years I've had the extreme privilege of working with an amazing array of talented developers and just plain great people here at Cryptic Studios," he said in a post on the official site of Champions Online, Cryptic's latest project. "Over the past few months my entrepreneurial spirit has become restless, and I've made the difficult decision to move on and look for new opportunities."

Cryptic also recently lost Star Trek Online's executive producer Craig Zinkievich after seven years with the company, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. Zinkievich's departure came five months after the launch of Star Trek Online.

Superhero-themed MMORPG Champions Online saw subscriptions rise in recent months even as publisher Atari struggled, as did Star Trek.

Roper is currently slated to deliver a keynote at the 2010 Game Developers Conference China held in Shanghai this December. Previous to the two years he spent with Cryptic, he was best known for a decade of work with Blizzard and contributing significantly to the StarCraft and Diablo franchises.
