Zynga, City of Wonder Lead Fastest-Growing Facebook Games

[Every other week, Gamasutra examines the fastest growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.]

Zynga's Texas HoldEm Poker is at the top of this week's chart as its audience swelled 5 percent with nearly 1.9 million new monthly active users, bringing its total of 38.1 million. The popular online card game (It's the second most popular app on Facebook) likely saw a boost from last Wednesday's launch of its Chinese edition.

Disney/Playdom's civilization-building sim City of Wonder, which launched just last week, made its debut on the list at #2 with about 1.6 million new and total players. A spot under that, Zynga's Mafia Wars recruited almost 1.4 million new mobsters with its recent Las Vegas expansion, adding 5 percent to its 28.2 million total.

At #4 is Playdom's Market Street with 1.3 million new virtual store owners and an 8.9 million total, followed by familiar giants like Zynga's Farmville (+1.1 million new users, 63.4 million total) and RockYou's Zoo World (+1 million new users, 13.6 million total).

Cie Games managed to crack the top ten at #7 with its first Facebook release, Car Town, which allows players to race and customize collectible cars and trucks based on real-world vehicles. The game picked up 856,100 new drivers for a 3.4 million total.

Tattoo parlor management game Tattoo City took the #8 spot with 802,550 newly-inked players and a 2.2 million total, while Spil's Zapapa Games portal added 742,286 players for a 4.1 million total, and Booyah's Nightclub City hosted 710,532 new patrons for a 7.1 million total.

The full list of the top 20 fastest growing Facebook games along with exact monthly active user counts are as follows:
