Top iPad Game Apps: Gameloft's Avatar Leads After Price Drop

[Sister site FingerGaming rounds up the week's most popular paid and free iPad gaming applications on the App Store as of today, with James Cameron's Avatar, AirAttack HD, and Angry Birds HD leading as the App Store's biggest-selling titles.]

This week's top paid titles are:

1. James Cameron's Avatar for iPad ($0.99)
2. Angry Birds HD ($4.99)
3. AirAttack HD ($0.99)
4. Fruit Ninja HD ($4.99)
5. Scrabble for iPad ($9.99)
6. Madden NFL 11 for iPad ($12.99)
7. Real Solitaire for iPad ($1.99)
8. Words With Friends HD ($2.99)
9. Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials ($9.99)
10. Plants vs. Zombies HD ($9.99)

After leading last week's chart with its price-dropped N.O.V.A., Gameloft once again heads iPad game sales with its discounted game adaptation of James Cameron's Avatar.

Angry Birds HD and AirAttack HD claim second and third place, as Halfbrick's Fruit Ninja HD moves up from eighth place to claim fourth in today's chart results.

Scrabble and Madden NFL 11 remain strong sellers for Electronic Arts, meanwhile, as Words With Friends and Real Solitaire for iPad return to the charts to push MumboJumbo's hidden object game Salem Witch Trials to ninth place.

Here are this week's top free iPad applications:

1. Battleship for iPad
2. Pac-Man Lite for iPad
3. Real Solitaire Free for iPad
4. City Story
5. Lasers Free
6. WordSearch Unlimited HD Free
7. Labyrinth 2 HD Lite
8. Flick Fishing HD Free
9. ADJewels HD Free
10. Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front HD Free

The absence of a native iPad adaptation of Hasbro's board game Battleship allows a clone version to take top honors in today's free iPad games chart. Demo versions of Namco's Pac-Man and Real Solitaire trail at second and third, while the free-to-play City Story leads over Brisk Mobile's Lasers Free at fourth place.

Free trials for WordSearch Unlimited HD and Labyrinth 2 HD follow at sixth and seventh place, as Freeverse's Flick Fishing HD Free, Reanimation's ADJewels HD Free, and Gameloft's Brothers in Arms 2 close out today's chart results.
