Super Meat Boy 'Main Course' For New Game Feast Fall XBLA Promo

Microsoft has seen success in the past with its Summer of Arcade promotions for its downloadable Xbox Live Arcade service on the Xbox 360, when a selection of titles receive high promotion as part of a timed lineup. Now it's again expanding the initiative, creating a separate promotion for the Fall season called "Game Feast."

Microsoft Game Studios chose four titles to publish for fall's Game Feast. Hydrophobia, debuting September 29th, is an action title that casts the player as Kate Wilson, a character struggling to survive in a world of flowing water; the company describes "dynamic and dramatic" gameplay.

Blade Games has developed the title using its internal "Hydroengine" tech, which it says has its strength in portraying realistic fluid dynamics.

'Splosion Man developer Twisted Pixel will bring its Comic Jumper to Game Feast on October 6th; announced at Penny Arcade Expo last year, the game stars Captain Smiley, a failed superhero, who is able to travel through comic books in a quest to save the genre amid "misguided plotlines."

Zen Studios' Pinball FX 2 also joins the lineup on October 13th, promising improved graphics and "new social competition platforms" over its predecessor.

It'll also feature a free initial download, with virtual pinball machines importable from the first Pinball FX for free, and individual pinball tables purchasable on a microtransaction basis.

Finally, Team Meat's Super Meat Boy rounds out the feast. The title has seen plenty of buzz on the independent awards scene: the hardcore 2D platform game was nominated for Excellence in Audio and the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at 2010's Independent Game Festival at GDC, and is a finalist for this year's PAX 10.

Anticipation for the title likely led to its claimed selection by Team Meat's cheeky developers as the "main course" for the feast; the Santa Cruz-based development team revealed on its blog that it will anchor Game Feast with an October 20th release date.
