Playerunknown's Battlegrounds claims record for most peak players in a non-Valve game

July 31, 2017 | By Alissa McAloon

The popularity of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been rapidly ballooning since the game first launched into early access just 4 months ago.

Just shortly after SteamSpy clocked PUBG at 6 million copies sold, the Bluehole-developed battle royale game has dethroned Fallout 4 to become the most concurrently-played game on Steam, not counting Valve's own titles.

On July 30, a grand total of 481,291 players sat down to enjoy some of the high-tension scavenging, sneaking, and shooting offered by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, officially giving it the third highest peak player count of any game on Steam.

While the game is still a far way off from breaking Dota 2’s peak players record of 1.2 million or even the 850k set by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds now has the highest peak players of any non-Valve game on Steam.

It’s worth noting that this peak player-count comes as the game is in the midst of its early access period. The game is expected to launch in full before the end of 2017 and has a handful of new features, including more maps and first-person servers, planned prior to that launch.
