Kickstarter expanding to welcome Japanese creators this September

Kickstarter expanding to welcome Japanese creators this September

August 17, 2017 | By Alissa McAloon

After eight years and thousands upon thousands of projects, the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter is finally opening its doors to Japanese creators.

According to The Verge, Japanese game developers, artists, and creators will be able to launch projects on the crowdfunding platform before the end of the year.

This means that Japanese game developers will soon be able to pitch their potential projects online without needing to forge any international partnerships ahead of time.

Starting on September 13, Japanese creators looking to crowdfund their projects will have one less hoop to jump through and will be able to launch campaigns on a Japanese-version of the site using both Japanese bank accounts and identification.

Previously, Japanese citizens were able to contribute to Kickstarter campaigns but were unable to launch their own campaigns without partnering with a US-based company.

Japan-based game developers looking to take advantage of what the crowdfunding platform has to offer can contact Kickstarter through email for more information on the process.
