Final Fantasy XV director plans official mod support for PC version

August 22, 2017 | By Alex Wawro

At Gamescom in Germany this week Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata told Rock Paper Shotgun that when the game launches on PC next year, players can "expect mod support."

That's a notable promise to make given that developer Square Enix has never officially supported the modding of Final Fantasy games (though that certainly hasn't stopped people from doing so).

It's also still very much up in the air; Tabata noted to RPS that the FFXV is still working out details like implementation, timing, pricing, and guidelines.

"I think a lot of people do want the mods as free as possible," he said, via translator. "With as few limitations from our side as possible, so we are going to look into making that the kind of system we have for the mods, so we’ll have to figure out all the technical terms around that."

This lines up with desires Tabata expressed early this year to extend Final Fantasy XV's lifespan via post-launch DLC like additional narrative content, a multiplayer mode, and more.
