Foundation 9 Reports $22M In Sales From Top Xbox Live Arcade Games
Multi-studio independent developer Foundation 9 Entertainment on Thursday called itself the "game industry's secret weapon," having generated $22 million in sales from its top five (by revenue) Xbox Live Arcade games.
The Irvine, CA-based company cited "internal sales statistics and royalty sheets" that reflect the milestone. Foundation 9 claimed that its games make up 15 percent -- or about 45 -- of the 300 titles available on XBLA. "No other developer can claim more titles on the platform," the developer claimed in a statement.
Foundation 9's studios include Backbone Entertainment, Double Helix, Griptonite, ImaginEngine, Pipeworks and Sumo Digital, which develop games for multiple platforms.
Backbone has served as Foundation 9's primary studio driving sales on XBLA's digital platform. The subsidiary has released XBLA games including Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom 2
, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
, Hudson's Bomberman Live
"Foundation 9 Entertainment is the game industry’s secret weapon," claimed Foundation 9 CEO James North-Hearn. "While most consumers don’t know our name, the biggest and best-loved game publishers around the world turn to Foundation 9 Entertainment to build games for all genres and platforms."
He added that the company will continue to have a strong focus on digital games across multiple platforms. But the developer also has a strong concentration on boxed retail releases, having worked on games including Lego Rock Band
, Silent Hill Homecoming
, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
, Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader
, Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian
and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
The developer's Griptonite studio also recently told Gamasutra
that it is working on a number of new games for Nintendo's upcoming 3DS handheld.
