Dragon Age II Sells 1M In Two Weeks, Free Mass Effect 2 For Purchasers

BioWare has revealed that RPG sequel Dragon Age II has sold more than 1 million copies in less than two weeks.

Listed on a special "BioWare Sequel Celebration" page, the developer confirmed that the sequel has sold faster than the original release Dragon Age: Origins.

"As always, we sincerely appreciate your support and passion as we remain focused on delivering quality interactive experiences now and in the future" said BioWare.

"Look for more exciting things coming from Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: The Old Republic in the future, including our recent launch of Mass Effect 2 Arrival DLC."

As a thank you, BioWare is offering a free copy of the PC edition of Mass Effect 2 to anyone who has already purchased Dragon Age II, or who buys the game before April 30. Instructions on how to receive your free copy can be found at the BioWare site.

RPG shooter Mass Effect 2 recently won the Game of the Year award at the Interactive Achievement Awards.

Bioware is a fantastic company, and Dragon Age: Origins was a great story, even though I failed to be able to finish it. I'm eagerly looking forward to playing Dragon Age II, and only hope I can make it all the way to the end this time around. Kudos to Bioware for all of their great productions.

Despite the flack that it's been receiving I thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age II. In many ways I found it to be superior to the first. I loved the more political, intimate story and I found the cast to be much stronger in II than in Origins. Sure, for hardcore RPG players the streamlining of the mechanics might have been irksome, but I generally play RPGs almost entirely for the narrative. The fact that Dragon Age II saw fit to get out of its own way was a welcome change of pace to some of the more complex, mechanics driven RPGs I've played. Good to see it doing well.

Also, as an aside, most of the people I know who didn't like Dragon Age II ended up recommending The Witcher to me. So I bought it. And played it. For thirty minutes. Is there a patch that removes all the dialogue and replaces it with Simlish? That would be lovely.

DA 2 might not be quite as grand as the first game, but it's a great game nonetheless.

I don't like the characters quite as much as the first game, and the combat is just too simplistc.

Still though, It's a great game, enough that I want to play through twice.

Suggestions for the next game....... 1). A mage felt really powerful in the first game with the mega DOT spells, I absolutely loved that. In DA2, mages move staves kung-fu style, and the big DOT spells were gone and were mostly powerful one hit spells instead. Bring the powerful mage feeling back, but keep the fast combat style if you want.

2). Stop re-using locations so much, it really took me out of the game when the warehouse was the always the same. It felt like an MMO

3). The fast travel system is nice, but i always felt i was just going from hub to hub or level to level, rather than being in an actual place or location. The cities need to feel more like real places, more locations in those cities to explore.

4). A house was great, but I couldn't customize it at all, and that was a major missed opportunity. Even better, allow us to buy real estate in game. It felt like a dropbox rather than a location I could call home.

5). We don't need whiny annoying characters. Carver was annoying..... Alistar was annoying, but at least he was funny.

Sold faster but will it sell more?

This screams of desperation... something tells me that sales stagnated pretty fast before they reached biowares goals.

Mm. I can't speak from experience because I chose not to buy DA2(despite being a big fan of DA:O), primarily because of what I'd heard about the game from both the media and from friends who played it. It's great that there are people who are enjoying the new 'version' of the game. But although it's anecdotal on my part, I don't know a single person personally who likes the game, and some of them have been big Bioware fans and loved DA:O.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that Bioware was spending reptuation to buy money with this game. Many aspects of it are way beneath the standard they set in previous games, and well below what I'd accept from anyone. I know that myself and other old Bioware fans are all going to be giving everything Bioware puts out a good long look before spending anything. I chose to do so with DA2 and I don't regret it in the slightest.

Which is frustrating, because early on I was excited to see where they would go with the series.

I regret buying this game. I honestly feel ripped off to say the least and that's never been the case for any Bioware game I've bought prior, even Jade Empire -- which wasn't falsely titled like DA2.

I thought I was buying a sequel to DA:O, a game I loved and played to death, but instead I got a rushed game that was clearly tailored more for the console bunch. A game that should have been an offshoot and never called DA2, which clearly makes it a cash-in.

Given there was such a short release time of DA2 after DA:O, the changes they made to make DA2 console friendly, which was at the expense of the PC version, had to have been a decision made early on. Probably before DA:O had even shipped and definitely before seeing how it would sell.

I paid $60 for this rushed game and I should have listened to myself after seeing the DA:O everything edition released about 6 months later for less than what I paid for my collectors edition and of course that joke of an expansion the Awakening -- which is sadly better than DA2 IMO. BUT, like I said, DA:O is still a game I thoroughly enjoyed, so I voted with my wallet on a franchise I thought would still be true to itself. This is even after playing the demo -- which overal rubbed me the wrong way, because from my experience, the demo of a game rarely lives up to the full release, but in this case, the retail version is just as bad.

Anyways, DA2 is what it is, a rushed cash-in and this offer says to me it's not selling as well as they expected, which to be frank, I honestly hope it sells poor when compared to the first, as I really can't care about a DA3 if it's more of this BS.

If DA2 had been called DA:Hawk's UBER Kung Fu EXTREME flying all over the place REPETITIVE edition, I would have not felt ripped off, because then I'd still know that a sequel was probably in the works, but that's gone now. Instead I have a game that I've tried to put serious time into -- as I paid full asking price, but I end up turning it off out of frustration -- as this game is no more a sequel to one of my favorites, than Rob Schneider is a Hot Chick.
