[Every other week, we examine the most popular Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.]

Less than three weeks after the turn-based strategy title debuted, Zynga's Empires & Allies has become the fourth most popular social game on Facebook, amassing almost 33 million monthly users.

It already has more than two times the audience of another Zynga hit, FrontierVille (#6, 13.8 million), and will soon overtake the developer's Texas Holdem Poker (#3, 35.2 million) if its userbase continues to grow and players decide not to abandon the new title.

CityVille remains the most popular game this week with 90.1 million citizens, and FarmVille holds onto holds onto #2 with 40.2 million players. Cafe World is the only other Zynga game in the Top 10 we haven't mentioned yet, claiming 11.8 million virtual patrons.

On the non-Zynga side, Gaia Online's Monster Galaxy at #5 has enjoyed considerable growth to 16.2 million users (12.5 million two weeks ago), and Disney/Playdom's Gardens of Time is at #7 with 13.3 million.

Finishing out the Top 10, there's PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz at #9 with 10.6 million players, followed by Wooga's Diamond Dash with 9.5 million. Electronic Arts/Playfish's Pet Society was knocked off the list to #11, as Empires & Allies strode in.
