Every year at Nintendo's roundtable event, Miyamoto fields questions about the fate of the Pikmin series, which last saw an entry in 2004. While he last year promised a new game was in development for the Wii, he said that development has shifted to the Wii U -- making it the first announced title for the system, as Nintendo has only shown tech demos so far.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the series. "I really wanted to release a Pikmin game" for that milestone, he said.
While development on a new Wii game in the series has been underway for some time, "as we've been working on the Wii U I've gotten a look at the fancy new graphics and the new controller, I got the feeling it's the perfect game for that system, so we're going to make it on that."
Since the team has already been developing the game for some time, however, "maybe it won't be too long before it's ready for Wii U."
"There are two sides to me today, the corporate side that wants to follow the precedent we set for E3 of not announcing any titles, and the creative side of me that wants to tell you we're working on Pikmin," he closed with.
No further details about the game were revealed.
