EVE Online Coming To Japan Through Nexon Partnership
EVE Online Coming To Japan Through Nexon Partnership
July 7, 2011 | By Frank Cifaldi

CCP Games' long-running space exploration MMO EVE Online will finally make its way to Japan this fall, thanks to a partnership with MapleStory creator Nexon Corporation.

Nexon will provide a full localization as well as distribution for the game. While CCP will continue to manage and develop the game's content, the Japanese version of EVE will be sold through Nexon's portal, and will utilize its billing system.

"Japanese players have always been an essential part of the EVE Online community," said CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Petursson. "Having considered Nexon’s excellent reputation as Asia’s leading game developer and publisher, they were the obvious choice in who the best possible partner would be to help us make the game more accessible to our growing fan base in Japan."

EVE Online currently operates in English, German and Russian. The Japanese version of the game will be operated on CCP's Tranquility server, which currently hosts over 350,000 EVE subscribers.

The game was recently steeped in minor controversy, as dedicated players expressed disappointment over EVE's new microtransaction-based virtual goods store. That dispute was recently resolved following a meeting between the game's developers and a chosen committee of players.
