Report: EA Acquires Social Games Studio Ohai
Report: EA Acquires Social Games Studio Ohai
July 12, 2011 | By Mike Rose

Electronic Arts has acquired social games company Ohai as part of EA's expansion into the social gaming market, according to unconfirmed media reports.

The Unicorn Parade developer was purchased by EA after receiving bids from companies such as Kabam, Tencent, Perfect World and Aeria Games, reports VentureBeat.

The report also suggests that the company was sold for "a relatively low price," according to a source. Gamasutra has contacted EA for comment.

The San Francisco-based studio was founded in 2008 by Susan Wu and is currently run by CEO Rex Ishibashi. It focuses primarily on creating casual MMO titles.

The company launched a number of titles, including its vampire Facebook game City of Eternals, but each failed to attract enough engaged users.

The move comes as EA revealed recently that it is looking to make social features a primary focus in all of its games going forward, with president Frank Gibeau describing the implementation as "a primary design pillar."
