Sony's has officially opened its PlayStation Network store to customers in Brazil, following Mexico as the second Latin American country to have access to the digital distribution marketplace.

The company says it has chosen 200 pieces of first- and third-party content "specifically with the Brazilian gamer in mind" for the store's launch, including downloadable titles like Assassin's Creed II, PSOne classics like Metal Gear Solid, and demos for titles like Little Big Planet 2. The Store will see regular weekly updates beginning August 2, Sony said.

With the store's launch, Sony has also extended its PSN Welcome Back program to PSN users in the country who were affected by the hacking-related service outage earlier this year.

Brazilian PSN users that had an account before the outage will have until August 21 to download two PS3 titles and two PSP game from the same selection of titles available in the United States. All Brazilian store users will also have access to a "Pixel Wonderland" theme.

Sony first announced plans to expand its PlayStation business into 13 Latin American countries back in February 2009, and has since expanded to include 19 countries in the region. The company recently began targeting Latin America with tailored hardware bundles and advertising.

Alongside the store launch, Sony has also launched an accompanying PlayStation Blog and website for Brazilian users.

Xbox Live Brazil must get better following PSN Brazil! The Live Brazil content is really weak compared to USA or Europe. I know in Brazil the content must be sent to the Ministry of Justice first and this is a looong process, but Microsoft has to do something about it. People here really want to spend their money on content!

Microsoft cannot force the game authors to authorize or send themselves the stuff.

PSN probably promised them a deal or something :P
