Less than a week after first offering a free version of its CryEngine 3 SDK for public availability, Crytek reports over 100,000 downloads for the development environment.

The free SDK, which Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said in April is "the same engine we use internally, the same engine we give to our licensees, the same engine that powers Crysis 2," has seen 111,712 downloads as of this writing Tuesday afternoon, according to the SDK download page.

The engine is completely free for non-commercial use, but studios that sell games using the engine will have to share 20 percent of all revenues with Crytek.

In April, the company reported over 250 international universities had signed up for a free educational CryEngine 3 license program since the program launched a year prior.
