[In this weekly column, Gamasutra rounds up the most popular paid and free iPad gaming applications on the App Store as of today, with Countre Jour, Peggle HD and Fragger HD currently ranking among the platform's top downloads.]

This week's top paid titles are:

1. Modern Combat 2 HD ($0.99)
2. Contre Jour HD ($2.99)
3. Peggle HD ($2.99)
4. Angry Birds Seasons HD ($1.99)
5. Angry Birds HD ($4.99)
6. Zombie Gunship ($0.99)

Chillingo's atmospheric physics puzzler Contre Jour HD ranks second in iPad game sales in its debut week, trailing Gameloft's price-dropped first-person shooter Modern Combat 2 HD.

PopCap's Peggle HD also enjoys a successful debut week, landing ahead of Rovio's recently updated Angry Birds Seasons HD at third place.

Miniclip's Fragger HD claims top honors during a limited-time free download promotion, overtaking Koala's recent App Store favorite Mr Giggle 2 HD Lite.

Playrix's puzzler 4 Elements HD and sim title Royal Envoy HD follow at third and fourth place, while competing physics-driven basketball games from AlphaWeb and Yomen take fifth and sixth.
